1. Range Officer’s WORD is LAW; all
directions from Range Officer must be obeyed.
2. First club member on range is range officer; the exception being a
SMLC scheduled shoot, which will have a designated range officer for
the event.
3. Range officer will designate a new range officer when leaving the
range.
4. There will be no alcoholic beverages. Any person visibly impaired
however slight, may not shoot and will be asked to leave the firing
line.
5. No smoking on the firing line.
6. Firearms may not be loaded directly from a powder container. A
powder-measuring device must be used.
7. Proper muzzle control must be maintained at all times.
8. No shooting at anything other than targets approved by SMLC.
9. "Any target used has to be at the target line" as per motion of May
12 1993.

Target line is defined as the target frame, the area under the frame or the rail used for silhouettes. | |

may determine target line to suit match being held. |
10. Shooter shall not purposely fire into ground in front of
target frames or anywhere above target frames at any time.
11. Fouling shots shall be taken to the nearest side of the target
stand or immediately underneath the shooter’s target, fouling shots
at gongs provided for that purpose will also be allowed.
12. No cross range shots to be taken.

Persons at the 25yd benches will not shoot at targets on the 50 or 100yd target line. |
|
|
Persons at the 50yd benches will not shoot at targets on the 25 or 100yd target line. |
|
|
Persons at the 100yd benches will not shoot at targets on the 25 or 50yd target line. |
|
|
Persons on the firing line of any range will not shoots at targets that are not in a reasonable line with the shooting station they occupy. |
13. NO PERSON SHALL HANDLE FIREARMS AT THE FIRING LINE WHEN
TARGETS ARE BEING POSTED, RETRIEVED, OR WHEN PERSONS ARE DOWN RANGE
FOR ANY PURPOSE.

Rifles or shotguns on the firing line must be placed muzzle up with the action open (where practical) when the range is inactive (closed to firing). |

Handguns on the firing line must be placed muzzle up in a loading stand or placed unloaded with the action open (where practical) on the shooting bench when the range is inactive (closed to firing). |
|
|
Shooters may remove unloaded firearms and related equipment from the firing line when the range is active (open to firing), as long as no interference is caused to other shooters. I.e. shooter is finished relay. |

|
Shooters may bring all equipment EXCEPT FIREARMS to the firing line when the range is inactive (closed to firing). I.e. targets being posted scored, retrieved. |
|
|
Shooters may move equipment and UNLOADED FIREARMS between firing points, when the range is active (open to firing) and EQUIPMENT ONLY when range is inactive/safe. i.e. between 50 and 100yd benches. |
14. No disorderly conduct will be tolerated on the firing line.
15. No person shall pass the firing line without the range officer’s
permission.
16. Only shooters and one coach or spotter are allowed on the firing
line.
17. All firearms should be on racks provided when not in use,
actions open where practical.
18. Black powder shooting has priority, if any black powder is being
shot, smokeless powder will be allowed with the other shooters
permission.
19. No fully automatic firearms will be fired on the range.
20. No littering on range. All refuse must be placed in containers
provided.
21. Common courtesy and respect of others should be used at all
times.
22. Anyone disregarding range rules will be subject to disciplinary
action by the executive.
DEFINITIONS:
Firing Line – the common area from which competitors discharge firearms, this will include all shooting benches from the west side of the 25yd range to the east side of the 100yd range. All shooting benches at the 200yd range and all shooting stations at the trap range.
Shooting Bench – the table or table with seat attached provided to facilitate loading and or firing.
Target Line – the target frame, the area under the target frame or the rail used for silhouettes.
Active – means that the range is open to firing.
Inactive – means that the range is closed to firing.
Firing – means the discharge of any firearm, in any manner.
SMLC Range Guests – Policy
SMLC members are welcome to host guest shooters at the SMLC range understanding the following:

The Club member inviting guest shooters is responsible for supervising the conduct and behavior of their guests. All club range rules apply to guest shooters. |

|
All shooting guests must be identified in the range book (located in the Cabin) including; SMLC Member/ host, date, names of guests. |
|
|
SMLC Range insurance requires a payment of $3 / day/ guest. SMLC Members/hosts are responsible for remitting these fees to the club Treasurer, (Dell Bayne). |
|
|
Larger groups (5 or more guests) must be scheduled with the Executive to not interfere with previously authorized and scheduled activities at the range. The minimum notification period is to contact a member of the SMLC Executive prior to the Executive meeting preceding the proposed event. (Executive meetings are scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month.) |

|
Individuals who repeatedly and routinely visit the SMLC range as guests should apply for their own membership to the SMLC. |
|
|
A Member’s direct family members (meaning spouse and underage children or grandchildren) are not guests for the purposes of this policy. |
